📚Tired of Amazon's Walls?Easily Put Any eBook on Your Kindle
The biggest lie in publishing? Your Kindle is locked to Amazon's store. If you love the device but hate being limited, you need to know this secret: You can load any eBook you purchase, including mine, onto your reader. Stop hesitating!
Many potential readers of independent authors, like myself, hesitate to purchase from my website because they don't know how to get the file onto their e-reader.
Your Kindle is an incredibly versatile device designed to accept many types of files. Even better, reading is not limited to your Kindle—you have a wealth of free reading apps available for other devices.
When you buy an eBook from johnfreemanauthor.com, you are supporting my work directly. Here is everything you need to know about purchasing and reading my books, no matter what device you use.
1. The Kindle Solution: How to Upload Files to Your Kindle Device
The easiest and most reliable way to get your purchased files onto your Kindle is by using the official Send to Kindle Service.
Documents That Can Be Imported
Your Kindle will convert many file types so they display perfectly on your screen. The supported documents include:
Standard eBook Format: EPUB (Yes, Kindles now convert EPUB files automatically!)
Documents & Text: PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, RTF, HTM, HTML
Images: PNG, GIF, JPG, JPEG, BMP
Note: The Send to Kindle service supports a maximum file size of 200MB.
Method Spotlight: Send to Kindle for Email
The simplest way to use this service is by emailing the file directly to your device. This method works for all compatible Kindle devices and Kindle apps linked to your account.
Step-by-step
Find Your Kindle Email Address: To find your Send to Kindle email address, go to Manage Your Content & Devices > Preferences > Personal Document Settings. Your Send to Kindle email address is a unique address assigned to each compatible device and Kindle app on your account.
Alternatively, your Send to Kindle email address can also be found in your Amazon account at Account > Digital content and devices > Devices—then click on the device link to open the information and show the Send to Kindle email address.
Approve Your Email (Check the List!): The easiest email to use is usually the one you registered your device with, as it's often approved by default. However, Amazon accepts files only from approved email addresses. Before sending, ensure the account you will be sending from is listed on your Approved Personal Document E-mail List in your Personal Document Settings.
Send it! Send your file as an attachment to your Send to Kindle email address. You don't need to include a subject line—just the file! The service will automatically convert it and deliver it to your device over Wi-Fi.
2. Beyond the Kindle: Free eBook Readers for Any Device
If you don't own a Kindle, or if you prefer to read on a device you already carry, there are many other excellent eBook readers available free that can be installed on your smartphone, tablet, notebook, or PC.
My personal favorite is NeatReader.
I recommend NeatReader because:
- It's simple to use and highly intuitive.
- It can be used on any platform (PC, Mac, iOS, Android, etc.).
- It is lightweight on your system.
NeatReader comes with a generous Free plan, but does have a Premium membership should you wish to have additional features. Download the app, open the eBook file you purchased from my website, and start reading!
Other software readers:
- Freda
- Calibre
- Icream eBook Reader
